Fulton School District recognizes community members for outstanding service.
The Fulton School District recently recognized Christyn Edwards and Glenn Harris with the 2012 David W. White Outstanding Service in Education Award. These individuals have demonstrated service to youth, community involvement and contributions to the school district and have contributed more than expected, establishing them as standouts among their peers.
Christyn Edwards is a parent volunteer at Bush Elementary School. In addition to assisting in Miss Davis' kindergarten class, Christyn helps other staff members and the office by making copies and doing countless small tasks to help when needed. It is also not uncommon for her to share her delicious cooking with the staff of Bush School.
Mrs. Edwards is known to go above and beyond, to help with classroom activities and helps make the classroom enjoyable for everyone. She comes up with creative crafts and activities, helps with field trips, and is often just there for students who need some motherly love.
It should be noted that Christyn has many activities, responsibilities and challenges in her life and yet she still manages to always have a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Her hard work and dedication to Bush School is appreciated and is an example to all, of what a caring, supportive, community member is.
Glenn Harris is a Commercial Bank Lender at The Callaway Bank. For two years he has assisted the Fulton High School FBLA chapter by working directly with students preparing for competitions and most recently served as a judge for the District 2 Competition.
Last school year, Glenn met with Jake Pierce and Dan McClure as they began work on the competitive Business Plan Project. After it was finished, he read over the 30-page report and gave advice on how to improve the plan. He repeated this process when the report qualified for state by reviewing the judges' comments and making recommendations to accommodate changes. When the duo qualified for national competition, Mr. Harris reviewed the report and made recommendations for the third time, and came to the school to watch the presentation and give advice. Their project earned them a second place finish at nationals and they credit Glenn's expertise as a major contributing factor.
This year, Glenn is again helping Pierce and his new partners with their competitive project. He has been very accommodating, professional, and knowledgeable as he worked with the team members. He goes above and beyond to show that he cares about these young people and their work and future.
